The 2022 Toyota Avanza — the third-generation of Toyota's compact, seven-seater, family MPV — is easily the most modern iteration to date.
Well, Toyota's timing in making the 2022 Avanza smart in many areas couldn't be better. After all, during the launch of the all-new model, Toyota Motor Philippines' (TMP) marketing division revealed that the families' demand for compact and budget-friendly MPVs has risen in recent time.
Styling is one area where the 2022 Avanza appears modern. The vehicle's trapezoidal front grille looks more in line with Toyota's recent models, such as the Raize and facelifted Wigo. Compared to its predecessor's slab sides, the new car wears prominent character lines. LED tail lamps freshen up the look, as well .
Meanwhile, the 2022 Avanza sports advancements that we won't see immediately — we're talking about the new front-wheel drive (FWD) platform and CVT transmission the 2022 Avanza sports. Those two features are a step up from the two previous models' rear-wheel drive (RWD) and torque-converter automatic gearboxes.
According to Toyota, the FWD platform and CVT matched with the 2022 Avanza's 1.5- and 1.3-liter engines can achieve stellar fuel economy. The carmaker is talking about — get this — an estimated fuel consumption figures of 15kpl (city)- to 20kpl (highway) for the 1.5-liter Avanza. The 1.3-liter with the CVT could net 1kpl lower figures in both areas.
Being FWD probably pays dividends in the cabin, too, because the 2022 Avanza's appears to be the most spacious iteration yet. As there are no longer RWD mechanicals intruding the cabin, the second-row seats allow for a 230-milimeter slide adjustment length, Toyota said.
On the other hand, the 2022 Avanza's two rear rows of seats can now be folded flush to accommodate cargo — or to create what Toyota calls the Long Sofa Mode for your brood's comfort. In Long Sofa Mode, the second-row seats fold to meet with the third-row's seat cushions to create, well, a sofa with a long seat cushion.
The cabin also features modern safety and convenience kit such as phone-mirroring-capable infotainment and side curtain airbags.
So, aside from modern looks, running gear — and the fact the Long Sofa Mode and three-row seating is standard across the range — price is another thing the 2022 Avanza has going for it.
The 2022 Avanza has four variants (1.5 G, 1.3 E CVT/MT, and 1.3 J MT) and is priced from P813,000 to P1.39 million — which are on par with the strong-selling previous model's.
