Honda has released teaser images of the upcoming sixth generation Honda CR-V. Seen here is a dark blue specimen with Hybrid badging below the CR-V logo.

Of course, the 2023 Honda CR-V has already been leaked in its entirety, but these teaser images offer some new details such as details on how the light bars in the tail lamps light up.

These teaser pix were released by American Honda Motor Co, so they are of the US market model. American Honda says the new CR-V will feature a more advanced and capable hybrid system for a sportier driving experience.

The current generation US market CR-V Hybrid uses an i-MMD hybrid system built around a 2.0 litre normally aspirated engine, where the engine is used as a generator to power electric motors.

A more advanced and capable hybrid system might mean a plug-in hybrid version with a larger battery for increased zero emissions driving capabilities. Note that the outgoing fifth gen CR-V already has plug-in variant with an all electric range of 65 km WLTP thanks to its 17 kWh battery, but it’s China only.

It would make sense for Honda to expand the plug-in offering beyond just the Chinese market, and this would help the US market sixth gen CR-V compete better against the plug-in capable Toyota RAV4 Prime hybrid.

Design cues include a more upright front end, slim headlights that extend beyond the bonnet shutline, a large hexagonal grille and L-shaped front bumper corners.

At the back, L-shaped tail lights continue the depiction as seen on the current fifth-gen, but the leading edges have a less pronounced protrusion viewed dead on centre, and the tailgate section of the unit is slimmer, offering the entire assembly a tauter – and Volvo-esque – look.

What do you think of how the 2023 Honda CR-V is shaping out to be?

UPDATE: Malaysian graphic wiz Theophilus Chin has mirrored the CR-V teaser images so we can have a full view of how the new Honda CR-V looks like.

But aftersales and quality is still failure, not even reach at volvo level

more to honda jazz taillights imho. but i think this taillight look more proportionate than xc60.

Small curvy lights look like cx5.

Volvo: Excuse me honda, why you copy my XC60

They basically celuped their old 5th gen CRV which celuped XC60.

Still no bsm and rcta?

No front mispedal control too.

I hope Honda Malaysia wakes up and realizes that their LaneWatch is inferior and the camera resolution is crap. Use a proper radar-based BSM with an LED indicator to tell the driver something is in their blind spot, rather than letting them check the camera and decide themselves (a two-step process that endangers safety).

Looks like a face lift than an all new car.

Many choose to ignore the fact that the current CRV already have lights that look like this for the past 6 years and still want to compare with XC… similar looking is not copy. Pfft.

Similar looking is not copy? I can’t understand your logic. Are you also saying current CRV lights look like XC60. Take a relook at current CRV before you comment. Current CRV doesn’t even look like XC60 at all. I only see this new CRV tailights look like XC60

Please look at the original 1997 CRV. The rear lights was always top to bottom. In fact, every CRV has a top to bottom lights.

First XC60 was only build in 2008. So who copy who now? Your choice of word to use copy. Not mine.

Please look at the entire range of CRV, then tell me I’m wrong.

But Volvo get idea from other manufacturers a bit but not really much and major that Volvo have also their own design. Not like honda, CRV tailights behind looks identical as XC60.

CRV has copied Volvo tail lights since the last past 6 years. Obviously, the latest Accord also copy S90 tail lights design…u have noticed that, don’t u?

LOL! Another ignorant commenter. CRV started in 1997. XC60 in 2008. Sure sure. Honda need to copy Volvo.

Look again between CRV started in 1997 and XC60 started in 2008. Doesn’t mean that Volvo have copied too much from Honda. Volvo got a bit of ideas but totally they have their own design for XC60. And I don’t see similar rear lights design between CRV in 1997 and XC60 in 2008, despite tailights for both CRV and XC60 are designing in horizontal shape design.

Fyi, Volvo get a bit of ideas but totally come out with their own design. There is no predecessor CRV models copied from Volvo, despite designing in horizontal tailight design, except for this brand new CRV

CRV 2017 was launched in Dec 2016. XC60 2017 started production in March 2017. So sure. If you consider the earlier car is capable of copying a yet to be produced one.

It’s your choice to fool yourself that Honda copied Volvo. I don’t really care because both CRV and XC60 is not something I will ever consider. I don’t like a living room on wheels.

Volvo gets a bit of ideas but totally they have come with their own design for XC60. Honda started CRV in Dec 2016 earlier than XC60 in 2017, but tailights designs between XC60 and CRV, have also did their own, CRV 2017 tailights looks downright but bulky and proportion looking slab of fat but on the other hand, XC60 2017 looks sleek and designed with timeless design, despite both still come out with horizontal shape design.

So now you say they are different? Before that, Honda copy Volvo. Now, 1 fat, the other nice.

I’m wondering if you think the Volvo and Honda designers sit side by side when they were drawing, like during exam and somehow one copied the other. Both SUV were launched probably 6 months apart so designers worked on them almost at the same time. Similar designs by car makers is more common than you think because the canvas that they work on is the same. Sheet metal and 4 wheels.

Perhaps you should watch some videos on how car designers come up with their design, and how they get converted into production. Hopefully that will give you an idea why I always say it’s not a copy.

2017 XC60 was designed by Thomas Ingenlath, when he was Senior VP Design, Volvo Cars. 2017 CRV was designed by Iliya Bridan, Exterior Designer from Canoo, California USA.

No, they are not husband and wife. No copy business.

Dude, I only mentioned this latest CRV tailights totally copies from Volvo, unlike those predecessor CRV models, okay. Volvo didn’t totally copied at all like what Honda nowadays always did, Volvo are just getting a bit of ideas but very small minor ideas. Minor ideas from other car brands is still acceptable but not much which I told you earlier. Not anyone of car brands are totally copied from others than you think.

That is one handsome looking car. The US version, not the China version.

current gen CRV signal is LED but new CRV seem is bulb type..the rear light look like volvo + cx5 facelift..front face look good

Marketing strategy…they will give LED signal 1 year later for new CRV facelift

Fake exhaust design by Mercedes Benz is being glorified here in the front facial??? Seriously???

Going to place order once it’s open for booking. any idea when it will coming to our shore?

i think the rear without the vertical lights will be better.

japanese design is still behind europe, always copy

“Thor’s Hammer is the nickname given to Volvo headlights since the second-generation XC90 debuted in 2015.” but who cares, good job Honda

Please come to Malaysia with Blind Spot Monitoring instead of one side only lanewatch …
